IBM Z DAY

Our ZAmbassadors had the opportunity to volunteer for IBM Z Day, IBM’s annual conference for all things-Z. We had 24 hours of Master the Mainframe related content, including 10 MTM Live Coding sessions and a student panel. Our ZAmbassadors served as presenters and panelists, as well as marketers to get the word out. Learn more about our great Z Day volunteers below!

“There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, there are no limits.’ – Michael Phelps. From last year being new to the mainframe world to this year becoming an official IBM Z Ambassador and a speaker at the IBM Z Day event. It was passion, hard work, and resilience that got me to where I am today. I am truly excited for this opportunity and I am looking forward to competing in the new Master the Mainframe environment!”

“The ZAmbassador program makes me excited and motivated to bring new ideas to the community, I am a current Masters student with a to do list that stretches to the moon and back. I became more interested in the community after completing several badges from Cognitive Classes and learned about using Qiskit at IBM Summer School 2020. Being a ZAmbassador has helped connect me to professionals and other interested members of the community ranging from data science to quantum computing. Open to creating content, organizing events and researching topics.”

“Being an IBM Z Ambassador, indeed a Z student, means having industry backing from IBM for my community. It is by default, an extension of IBM’s Academic Initiative to empower and train students and faculty with relevant 21st century skills required for success. These skills teach digital literacy, mainframes are becoming an integral part of our world everyday because they process 1.2 million data transactions per second; that’s 72 million per minute! Anyone in our day and age should know how to work with one as these skills are integral to promoting digital literacy to students.”

“Having the ability to connect with like-minded people from across the globe & expanding my professional network has been insightful. I’ve spoken with several zAmbassadors since I became one & we are like one big family — despite our differences we all share an eagerness to inspire technologists into enterprise computing & that drive unites us. This was particularly poignant when we hosted our zStudents episode: ‘Is Computer Science For Me?’ as hearing the journeys of zAmbassadors in the field & their energy for technology was infectious!”
